Welcome to Boomerang Bags Stanthorpe

What we do

We take reclaimed materials and create reusable bags (and other items).

Feel-good Facts

We:

  • Started June 2016, and made 15,556 bags in our first 9 years.
  • Operate as a self-funded, not for profit community group.
  • Are volunteers.
  • Rent a dedicated, private, permanent space at The Summit Public Hall.
  • Sell bags from $2.
  • Focus on converting reclaimed fabrics into reusable bags.
  • Make free library bags for local school students.
  • Partner with local organisations to support their charity and community activities.

How can I help?

Donate time - Turn up anytime on a Tuesday between 9am - 2pm. No sewing experience is required as there are many important stages of the bag making process, including sorting, ironing and more.

Donate fabric - Sorting the linen cupboard? De-stashing the sewing room? Organising a deceased estate? We accept donations of clean:

  • fabric/material
  • sheets
  • pillow cases
  • doona covers (not doonas)
  • curtains (not lace or sheer)
  • coffee sacks
  • table cloths
  • jeans/denim
  • sample books (upholstery eg. lounge/curtain samples)

While a small tear or stain is fine, we can't use items that are mouldy, oily or have had mousies in them. We do accept clean denim and jeans, but not other clothes. We have plenty of animal feed bags and are not accepting donations of these at the moment.

Donate money - Financial contributions help us pay operating expenses (rent, thread, scissor sharpening, machine servicing etc). It also helps us distribute free library bags to local students, work with Zonta, and help other local worthy causes.
